Love Our Enemies

“Love your enemies, bless those who curse you and do good to those who hate you,”

“Love your enemies, bless those who curse you and do good to those who hate you,” (Matthew 5:44), Jesus said. Indeed, it is easy to love one who loves in return. But if there’s no test of character, we won’t have anything to learn at all. The real lesson in life comes when we follow God’s call to forgive the most unforgivable, forget the most unforgettable and to love those who would rather see us take a fall.

Rejoice with God

Let us rejoice with God.

God always wanted to paint our lives with joy. Indeed, God takes delight when we rejoice in all that he has done; and when we see the love of Christ, our joy has just begun. Though God takes sins seriously, He is also the one who abundantly pardons and provides for every need. Let’s remember this: He is not a killjoy!

Breaking Free from Guilt

God is merciful to all those who seek His forgiveness.
When God forgives, it’s time for us to forget. Let us not let guilt or hatred take the better of us. So what do we do if sin has its icy hands on our heart? What do we do if guilt strangles us from joy and make us forget that God’s forgiveness is not based on what we do but on what Christ has done for us? Let’s ask for His forgiveness. Then, let’s thank Him for it and moment by moment remind ourselves of the wonders of His saving grace. As it was written on Hebrews 8:12, “I will be merciful to their unrighteousness and their sins… I will remember no more.”

Bad Gifts

Beware of false teachers

Not all gifts are free; some have hidden price tags. Apostle Peter said, “There will be falls teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord” (2 Peter 2:1). That is why, we ought to study the Scriptures to test what we hear and grow in the faith. That way, we won’t discover that our spiritual life hasn’t been ransacked.

Prayer is not asking. It is a daily admission of one's weakness - Mahatma Gandhi

Prayer keeps us humble, on our knees. Prayer makes us feel that we are not all-powerful, all-knowing.

Overconfidence: This is going to end in disaster and you have no one to blame but yourself.

Overconfidence won't take you anywhere else.

Humility: the true and everlasting strength of mankind is found in submission to the will of God.

Humility, a strange thing. The minute you think you've got it, you've lost it.

Humility, a strange thing. The minute you think you've got it, you've lost it.

On Humility

Be clothes with humility

No garment is more becoming to a child of God than the cloak of humility. Apostle Peter said, “Be clothed with humility,” (1 Peter 5:5), as so, as God’s servant, we should be known for humility. We should about other people’s accomplishments and focus on serving others.

I wonder....

It's all about good ol' past.
The past few days, I've been looking back on the most special memories I've had in the years gone by. I don't know if grandma's 82nd birthday had it's nostalgic effect on me, or what, but as I lay on my bed before I take a nap or at night before I sleep, while on the bus, or even while working, random thoughts of high school memories and college years would find their way to my head... And you know, it leaves me smiling to look back on the good old days I've had. Good old days I've spent with my good old friends and cousins and family. I wonder where they are right now. I wonder what's going on in their lives. I wonder if, I like me, did the random thooughts of happy past ever visited their minds?

Even with Little, I am Content

Most of us are not content with out lot because we want a lot more. But for me, I have come to appreciate the many things that have come and gone in my life. I guess, that’s the true essence of contentment.

When Bright Ideas Spring to Mind

I’ve been meaning to write about this…

Some of the best ideas spring to my mind when I’m at the church. I don’t know what miracle it is, but I never fail to thank God, with amazement, if the many wondrous thoughts that He allows to enter my head.
It may be because when I’m at church, my mind is de-cluttered. An hour spent saying the rosary, reading the Scriptures, communing with God, and doing some heart-to-heart talk with Him make it all easier and less burdensome to face all my troubles.

Auntie's Idol

Dawn Zulueta was my Auntie's favorite actress

Auntie Judith, may her soul rest in peace, had a great fascination with Dawn Zulueta when she was still alive. That was in the early 90s.

Alone but not Lonely

I am alone, but never lonely. In my solitude, I find bliss.

I have always been alone. All my life, I have had lonesome moments. Note: lonesome, not lonely. I can live with people right with me. I can deal with a crowd. I can speak in front of a multitude. I can socialize in events. But then, I can also eat outside on my own, with no one as a "date." I can go shopping all alone. I go to church with me, myself, and I—and God, of course—as company.

My Mom and My Map

I loved studying the map

I was in Grade 4 when I penchant for History began and it reached in zenith when I was in Grade VI when I became our school’s undisputed history champ. In class, our teacher, Miss Teresita Alovera, would bring a map in front of the class and teach us geography. I have memorized all the regions, provinces and capitals not just of the Philippines, but almost all the countries back then.

Frankly speaking… writing actually… from the heart

I never feel lonely, for He is with me, and I in Him.

There are people who are fund of claiming that my social life is dead. That I'm weird because I don't go for a night out. That I am aloof because I don't deal with people that much. It's a compliment having you all say those things to me.

Trimming My Plants... and Myself

Gardening has its way of renewing the spirit
After many months from being out of touch from, or more aptly not touching my plants, I started to reconnect with my green pets this afternoon. And it seems they really need me now more than ever. I have noticed my two surviving pots of roses are not as rosy as they used to be. My painted nettles have overgrown and everything else is messy…

A Gracious Heart

Each day I take time to thank You,
For giving me a life brand new,
for the sleepful night and the morning dew,
for the faith that rest renew,
for the blessings not-so-few,
and for the grace that comes on due.

A little bit stressed...

After several fast-paced and seemingly nonstop days, I find myself feeling sick right now. I can't stay on the monitor for so long because my head is quite aching, my eyes irritated and my back, not feeling well. I dont want to call this stress because stress is something I dont know.

Last Man Standing... and Typing

Just like when I was in high school... almost.

Perhaps, I was one of the last few people who were able to make it through high school without "Google-ing" everything. When I had spare time, I'd spend it at the Library. While others were doing nothing but talking and laughing at the corridors, I was devouring history books, Britannica, Americana, Comptons, and the like.

My Grandpa and My First Book

My grandpa helped nurture my love
 for reading.
It was December 24, 1996 and my cousins and I went to Christine's Gift Shop and Bookstore and I saw that huge story book I so wanted to own. I had no money and I went home disappointed. I really wanted to have that book, so I went to grandpa and asked if he could give me P99.00 so I could buy that book. He gave me 100.

That afternoon, I returned with my cousin, and we bought that book. I had a very merry Christmas. I finished reading that book in one day and so, I wanted to read another one. So, on New Year's Day, I asked grandpa if he could buy me another book. So, off we went to the bookstore and grabbed another one. And so the passion for books continued and grandpa spoiled me a lot. Each pay day or so, we'd shop either a small booklet of ABC or coloring books--it would always be books. When a book dealer visits school to receive orders, I'd ask grand pa for money so I could buy one. I'd never fall head over heels for books, had it not been for my grandfather.

Read the Bible every day

God who formed worlds by the power of His Word
Speaks through the Scriptures His truth to be heard;
And if we read with the will to obey,
He by His Spirit will show us His way. (-D. De Haan)

Let us open the Bible and ask God to open our hearts so we become "doers of the Word and not hearers only..." (Jame 1:22)

Beautiful within

True beauty lies within

Beautiful lives are those that bear
For others lives their load of care;
Beautiful souls are those who show
The love of Christ where'er they go. (Anon.)

Nothing is more attractive than Christlikeness because "The Lord does not see as man sees;... the Lord looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7).

A Prayer to Strengthen

While treading the road of hardship, let us pray for guidance

O, Lord, help us to recognize,
When we begin to compromise,
Ang give us strength to follow through
With what we know is right and true. –Spe

Never let alcohol take the better in you

Never let alcoholism ruin your life
Never resort to drink as an escape from life, you'll only end up losing your life and your will to live. Rather, surrender everything to God--offer him your worries and troubles, and give him back all the blessings--and you will find a richer, more meaningful life.

Sky is the Limit

Widen your horizon

Oftentimes, we are restricted
not by other people's expectations,
but rather by our own limitations
that we set upon ourselves.

I am the man who refuses to move

As school officially opens today, I have come to the realization that people are growing up and old. They do come and go. They change and evolve for the better. But it seems that I have been left out. I have refused to go. I have refused to leave. In every inch, I am the man who can't be moved.

Why Manny Pacquaio Shouldn't Accept a Rematch

Manny Pacquiao shouldn't accept a rematch. He should lodge a protest!
Brandey's win was all Bob Arum's machination. He knows he'll lose his biggest money-making draw because Pacquiao vowed to retire once he wins the game. But he didn't. They cried rematch. And once the agreement becomes solid, Arum could expect to earn more millions. Now, if I were Pacquiao, I wouldn't acquiesce for a rematch. It's plain and clear. I've been cheated. I was the winner--almost. So, why would I deal with opportunists who want to make more money of my flesh and blood? COMMON SENSE. If Pacquiao was wise enough, he won't accept a rematch. He should protest the decision to gain was is truly his, even if it's last thing he does. At least, he'll retire knowing that the whole world is in his side rather than a grumpy old man's puppet.

Independence Day: Celebrating 114 years of freedom?

Independence Day

Today, the Philippines, my ever beloved, celebrates its 114th Independence Day. But actually, I’d like to call it a commemoration of the Declaration of Independence, which reached its climax on June 12, 1898, when revolutionary leader and the country’s first president Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo hoisted the Philippine flag for the first time on the balcony of his mansion in Kawit, Cavite. However, neither the Spanish, nor the American government recognized this. Our independence was merely a “declaration,” in paper only, and not in reality.

In fact, on Dec. 10, 1898, by virtues of the Treaty of Paris, Spain ceded the Philippines to America. The Philippines was never free until the United States granted the country’s independence on July 4, 1946. We observed our independence day every fourth of July until May 12, 1962, when Pres. Diosdado Macapagal issued Presidential Proclamation 28 declaring June 12 as a legal holiday in commemoration of the country’s declaration of independence. On Aug. 4, 1964, Congress ratified trough RA 4166 July 4 as Republic Day, while June 12 as Philippine Independence Day.

According to the late Education Secretary Alejandro Roces, this act was patterned with that of the US, who declared its independence July 4, 1776. However, it wasn’t really recognized as an independent nation by Britain until 1789.

But I don’t think the same could be said for our country. In my point of view, although the US declared in independence in 1776, it has never been under the rule of any country since then, so it could truly claim its independence.  But not for the part of the Philippines. We declared our independence in 1898, but we have been colonized many times over. We fell on the hands of Americans, then to the Japanese. So, there’s really no point of calling ourselves free when in fact we’ve been colonized twice over.

This is just my point. I love my country and I am proud of my nationality. It’s my own point of what should be than what it is.

Edward VIII Exposed

here is an article about King Edward VIII.

Queen Elizabeth II and The British Royal Family

The current British Royal Family is composed of the Queen, Elizabeth II, her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, their children, and the Queen’s relatives bearing the title style Royal Highness. The current royal family is descended from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Before World War I, the British Royal Family is named the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. In 1917, out from strong anti-German sentiments and a surge of anti-monarchist propaganda, King George V (the current queen’s grandfather) changed the name of the British Royal Family from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to Windsor, named after the oldest inhabited castle in the world.

Queen Elizabeth II
A Queen is Born

Queen Elizabeth II was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary in 1926. Her father was then the Duke of York, while her mother was the former Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. The young Elizabeth’s father was never expected to become king because he had an elder brother, Edward, Prince of Wales, who ascended as King Edward VIII in 1936. However, the new king fell in love with a twice-divorced American, Wallis Warfield-Simpson. Those days, marrying a divorcee meant social disgrace and the king was faced with the dilemma of choosing between his duty as head of the Great Britain and the Commonwealth and marrying the “woman that he loves.” He abdicated in December 1936, was made Duke of Windsor, and married Mrs. Simpson the following year.

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth

The new king assumed the name George VI and went on to rule Great Britain and the far-flung British Empire from 1936 until his death in 1952. He and Queen Elizabeth were popular anti-German figures during World War II that boosted the morale of their countrymen. After his death, their elder daughter, Elizabeth, succeeded as Queen Elizabeth II. Her reign ushered in the New Elizabethan II and marked the disintegration of the British Empire and the development of the British Commonwealth of Nations. Furthermore, her reign witnessed the gradual decline of the monarch’s political power, albeit her fairness and wisdom proved better than any of her prime ministers. In 2002, she celebrated her 50th year on the throne, followed by her diamond jubilee in 2012.

The British Royal Family Today

In 1947, she married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He was born a Prince of Greece and Denmark, although he relinquished that title, as well as his rights to the throne of Greece and Denmark before he married Elizabeth. Prince Philip is the queen’s strong supporter in various public and ceremonial functions. He also takes official and charitable duties of his own in support for the British Royal Family. The couple has four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne Princess Royal; Albert, Duke of York; and Edward, Earl of Wessex.

Inspiration: Do No Worry

Do not worry because it "does not add one cubit" to our lives.

Dr. Martin R. De Haan said that worry is a sin. It is caused by lack of faith, a failure to believe God’s word. Yet, it is a sin that many Christians find hard to overcome. Today, meditate to stop and think of the things that you have worried about. We tend to be filled with anxiety over what might happen but never does. So, why worry? Jesus said that it’s futile to fret for worry can’t change anything (Matt. 6:27). We need to remember that our heavenly Father knows all about our situation and watches over us (vv. 28-34). We can be sure that He will take care of our needs no matter what tomorrow brings. It’s better therefore to be wise and trust the Lord. Remember, worry never solved a problem! Indeed, Jesus taught us not “worry about tomorrow… Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matthew 6:34).

Inspiration: Living Life to the Fullest

The only life that’s worthwhile—be it long or short—is the one spent in service for the Lord and in bringing blessings to others. Indeed, what matters is not long we live, but how well we live. It is better to add life to our years than years to our lives. “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth” (Ecc. 12:1)

Great Preachers

The greatest sermons that I have ever heard were not preached from pulpits but from sickbeds. The deepest thoughts of God’s words have often been taught by those humble souls who have gone through the seminary of affliction.

The most cheerful people I have met, with few exceptions, have been those who’ve had the least sunshine and the most pain and suffering in their lives. The most grateful people I have ever known were not those who have traveled a pathway of roses all their lives, but those who were confined in their homes, some on their beds, and had learned to depend on God.

The gripers, on the other hand, are usually those who have the least to complain about. The men and women who are the most cheerful and the most grateful for the blessings of the Almighty God are often those who have gone through the greatest trials.

James tells us “The testing of your faith produces patience,” (James 1:3)so if we are suffering, let us not be disheartened , because as Peter (1 Peter 1:7) puts it, everything is all worth it.

On Trusting Him

Because we are prone to drifting away from Him, the Lord must discipline us to get us back to the right course (Heb. 12:9-11), although sometimes it seems as if God allows circumstances into our lives that are harming us and are without sense of plan. But take heed, let us set our "mind on thins above, not on things on the earth," (Col. 3:2) because they are God's loving way of drawing us closer to Him.

On Sharing Our Blessings

When you grasp you lose; when you give to God, you gain. Indeed, “He who sows sparingly also reaps sparingly, and he sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” (2 Corinthians 9:6). Israel’s wise man said, “There is one who scatters, yet increases more” (Proverbs 11:24). It is one of the oldest paradoxes in the world.

On generosity: Remember, the more we give, the more we receive.

Calm Amidst the Storm

When we are battered by the storms of life, we may look tempted to give in to feelings of hopelessness. Be if we look to God and commit our way to Him, we will find peace even in the midst of turmoil. We can trust Him to bring us through the storm. Indeed, God may calm the storm around us, but more often He’ll come the storm within us. Thus, “commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall it bring it pass.” (Psalm 37:5)

God Cares

Where God guides, He provides. So instead of worrying what's ahead of us, we can trust the Lord to be there to care for us. Indeed, "The Lord preserves all who love Him," (Psalm 145:20) because he is "righteous in all His ways, gracious in all His works." (Psalm 145:17).

Where God guides, He provides.
