Why It’s a Waste of Time to Use Odesk, Elance and Other Bidding Sites

If you are a startup or writer, you will always ask yourself: "Which freelance bidding site should I use?"
Elance? Odesk? Or Freelancer?

Actually, it isn't worth spending your time and hard work on these sites.

Why?

Rates for writing jobs on these freelance bidding sites are way, way low. In fact, any decent writer won’t want to get paid at least lower that $5 for a 300-word project.

Aside from the fact that rates are ridiculously low on these sites, take note you also have to bid for jobs; even though you'll be paid dimes.

One of the reasons freelance bidding sites are not really great is because they encourage writers to compete with one another, consistently, for an opportunity to get a gig.

It’s no longer a battle where in a writer the best work but a battle of which writer can charge the lowest.

So where can you get your writing jobs:

1. Look Out for Paid Blogging or Magazine-Writing Gigs

There’s a lot of blogs out there that are willingly pay you $50 and above for an article depending of course on your writing skills and your speed in writing an article. For example, if it takes you an hour to complete an article and you work 4 hours a day and 5 days a week, you'll be making $4,000 at the end of the month writing for blogs that pay you $50 an article.

2. Research Corporations and Businesses that Need Content

Look for the websites of some of your favorite companies/products and see if they are using content as effectively as could; this includes checking to see if they have a blog, a regularly updated newsletter and constant ebooks or whitepapers aimed at positioning them as an online leader in their niche.

If they don't, pitch them to let them know you love their products/services but believe they'll make more progress and make more sales by using content in different channels. Also let them know that you can be of help.

To make your progress easy, you might try using LinkedIn to work on this; it's easier to have access to top people in different organizations and you can also easily get in touch with them by using LinkedIn's messaging feature.

3. Start a Blog

With your own blog, you get to manage the topics of the content and frequency of posting these articles. However, it’s important that you have to work your way to earning the trust and confidence of readers so they’ll have the reason to keep on coming. The quality of information you provide them will mean only one thing—you are fueling their interest and curiosity of what you’ll have to post next.

Here are a few tips you can put into action immediately:

• Make a professional-looking blog.

• Center your blog around a specific topic.

• Be consistent on your content schedule. Blog as much as you can, every day or a couple of times a day but be sure to put quality and value on your work. Don’t blog just for the sake of blogging. Blog because you know you have something interesting and exciting to people.

• Tell everyone that they can hire you to write for them. That’s why a hire-me-page is very important because it will give a hint to your would-be clients that you are available for hire. Nobody will hire you if they don't know you're a freelance writer.
